National Curriculum in the UK

All of our courses are based on the British national curriculum. The British national curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said, and promotes an appreciation of human creativity and achievement. The aim of the British national curriculum is to prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.

For further information regarding the specific courses that we provide you can refer to the individual course introductions that we have prepared which outline the specific learning outcomes for each of our courses.

Why do we do baseline assessments?

Each of our courses begins with an initial assessment. The initial assessments we ask students to complete are known as baseline assessments. These are vital for us as educators as they give us reliable information about your children’s academic capabilities so that we can support them optimally going forward, transforming their academic outcomes. Through the use of baseline assessments we can understand your child’s needs and potential, and crucially measure the impact we have on your child’s progress as they progress through our courses. By doing this we can keep you informed every step of the way and ensure you are aware of your child’s ongoing learning needs and development goals.

Formative and Summative assessments:

During our courses we also utilize both formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning and progress and provide ongoing feedback for both yourselves and your children.

Formative assessments are the day to day assessments we make throughout our interactions with your children during lessons. This can help us to set small achievable goals for your children going forward increasing their motivation and sense of achievement. A secondary benefit is that we can identify any potential misconceptions your child has and incorporate material into our lessons that will address these directly.

Summative assessments are completed at the end of each unit. These are particularly useful to us when we are able to compare these results to a reliable baseline assessment, further highlighting the importance of the initial assessments we carry out. Summative assessments show us how much your child has progressed during the term and can help us to set ongoing learning goals for your child going forward.
